We are reproducing below a letter addressed by Shri S.V.Srikantia to geologist-friends
on the ordeal they had gone through  fifty years ago(on 19.9.2012) in the Lahaul-Spiti
Himalaya, caught up as they were in a vicious snowstorm. The detailed account of the
near disaster appeared in the Magazine "Caravan"(in 1964) and is also reproduced
here.
