The term Integrated Water Source Management (IWRM) was coined by the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development. A UN Status report on IWRM prepared for the Rio+20 conference documents the progress so far, which has not been very satisfactory. The authors of a note in “Science” (8 June 2002) delve on the constraints faced hitherto and remedial action needed for sustainable management of water resources.
