97% Indians do not have access to clean drinking water

Sunita Narain in a comment in Nature of June 14, 2012 has state that “rapidly modernizing India is drowning its own excreta. Nearly 60% of India’s population have no access to toilets and are compelled to defecate in the open. The mixing up of sewage and water supply systems cause frequent epidemics of gastro-intestinal diseases particularly in the summer and early monsoon period.
